Harry's Hofbrau was always a great place for the family and friends to get together, Harry's was there all of my life. A great tradition has gone by the way side, seeing how I moved to Oklahoma 29 years ago it's been 10 years since we were there last

My husband and I ..miss the Saratoga location... The food here was always good.. And I really loved the Barvarian decorations, My great grandmother from my Father's side was born In Barvaria , the last one in my family born in Barvaria!!! We, travel to Redwood City to dine at Harry's.... The food is still very good and fresh... always delicious!! It's not the same...I miss the Saratoga location.... Here at home.....

Still the best! They are closing effective January 9th, 2019, however the last day they will be serving food is January 8th, 2019...Tomorrow!

Horrors! Sadness! Shock! Harry's Hofbrau on Saratoga Avenue in San Jose is closing! The last dinner is on Tuesday 8 January 2019. The iconic restaurant will be torn down for some new development and the property owners did not renew the restaurant's lease. Terrible! It has been there for 42 years! We have been eating here for many years and enjoyed it every time. The selection of different meats in various forms has always been great and tasty. We found out about the closing from my daughter who lives near Seattle!!! (She has been eating at Harry's since she was a baby!). She told us today, Monday 7 January. My wife, my son, and I immediately went there for a last dinner. We arrived at around 5:30 pm and found a long line for food. By the time we got our food at the cafeteria style counter, and found a table, the line had tripled in size. The word was getting out and the fans were coming for a last great dinner at Harry's. Even though they are closing at the end of tomorrow night, the food was plentiful, delicious, and a wide selection was offered. We each had the Roast Beef Dinner ($15.74), which included two large slabs of delicious, perfectly cooked rare roast beef, mashed potatoes and fantastic gravy, a choice of side dish (we each had the wonderful red cabbage), and a roll. We also got a Beer Braised Brisket dinner ($13.89) to go, so we could have some more tomorrow. There are still two remaining Harry's Hofbrau locations: Redwood City and San Leandro. I hope that they can reopen this one somewhere closer near San Jose. Many of the customers were angry that the City of San Jose did not act to preserve the restaurant from development.

My sister had recommended me to order a carrot cake from here for her birthday. I thought to myself of all places to order dessert, why would I order it from here? I was proven completely wrong and let me tell you why. You legit have to order a cake from here at least a day in advanced. The whole carrot cake costs a little under $25 with taxes. I was blown away when the manager, Daniel with whom I had spoken with said it could feed up to 15 people. And boy was he right! I cut at least 9 cake slices and there was still about 1/3rd of the cake left! The cake was moist and honestly, one of the best carrot cakes I've ever had (and I'm usually not a huge fan either). I would totally come here again just for the cake but would like to try the food based on the good reviews.

Great place for good, old-fashioned meat and potatoes. The portions are huge; $15 dinner gets you 5-6 cravings of meat, a bowl of mashed potatoes, a roll, and a side. The roast beef and turkey are very juicy and the gravy is amazing. The salads and vegetables are very fresh and crisp. It was healthily busy on the Saturday that my family and I went. There are party rooms in the back of the restaurant that were both reserved when we were there. It's frequented by a lot of elderly folk. You order at the buffet, pay at the registers, then find a seat. There is stroganoff served on Sundays.

A pretty solid Hofbrau! Many years ago, there were a ton of Hofbrau's in the Bay Area, but they slowly seemed to vanish. My dad has been craving a Hofbrau for a long time, so we decided to give this place a shot. First, this place is huge! I can see this place being a great place to party and enjoy beer and good food. We came on a mid afternoon Wednesday and there were still a decent amount of people. Service here is really GOOD. I couldn't believe how friendly everyone was. It felt like I was in Disneyland or something. Seriously. EVERYONE was friendly. The food was also really good, especially the roast beef meat. Very tasty and great. A good sandwich was to be had. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. This is where you can go for a good hearty meal to enjoy yourself with friend and family. Highly suggested. Also, they have some pretty cool wooden art people. I really got a kick out of the Napoleon one.

There's something about working for your food that makes it taste so good. Usually this means actually cooking it but in this case, it's standing in line and eyeing someone one else prepare your food hungrily - the hardest of jobs. The overall ambiance comes off a little divey and maybe even a tad tacky with the fake rotisserie displays outside but don't let that stop you from coming in! There's a lot of Sunday dinner that's ready and waiting for you. It's a cafeteria style line where you pick meats, sides and desserts. The first stop is the meat section. The choices may seem overwhelming but you can split dinner plates half and half if they are the same price. For example, this time I got a turkey and roast beef split. The dinners come with two sides - I went with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes this time - plus a roll. Now unlike your school, hospital or prison cafe, the food here is soo good. Usually with a lot of quantity you expect the quality to go but the turkey wasn't dry and the roast beef was perfect medium rare and juicy. The sides are a nice carby compliment as well. Since I went for Thanksgiving I finished off my meal with a slice of pumpkin pie which they don't always have but there is some sort of dessert to end your night off on a sweet note.

Rumors were traveling around that Harry's Hofbrau was going out of business. That is not true. I am happy to say...It's staying! The restaurant/pub is conveniently located near the corner of Saratoga Avenue and Stephens Creek Blvd. Parking is a breeze as the lot is huge. The decor is charming and entertaining without being cluttered. The wood-carvings, and wall hangings as well as framed prints and display of artful steins evoke old Bavaria. We always like to look around while we are there. The very long bar is of gleamng polished wood. The booths and tables are also polished wood and the seating is comfortable and informal. There are no tablecloths and the napkins are paper. Service is via a buffet line... and it is always long at lunchtime. It's one of the few places working people can get "house cooked" food quickly. The potatoes, for example, are pealed and boiled and mashed there in the kitchen. The turkeys and hams and beef roasts come right out of their ovens. The delicious pies and cakes are baked right there. Th German specialties like the wursts, schnitzel , cabbage, sauerkraut and potato salad are very authentic. The schnitzel is pork rather than veal and is served with a country gravy. The salad offerings are numerous and the Waldorf is especially delightful with abundant apples and walnuts. The menu accommodates everyone and has special pricing for senior and children. The restaurant and restrooms are sparkling clean. The whole family can enjoy this old-fashioned, lovely place.
